October 2 – November 7, 2021 "Celebrating the state’s spirit of creativity, “Día de Los Muertos 2021: Espíritus Creativos de California” (“Day of the Dead 2021: Creative Spirits of California”) honors innovative Californians Eazy-E, Carrie Fisher, Ishi, Charles M. Schulz and John Steinbeck through original works by California artists Roberta Alvarado, Francisco Franco, John Hancock and Juan Ramos of John Juan Art, John S. Huerta and Rob-O of I Love Sugar Skulls. A journey through life, love and death, the new exhibition explores the Mexican cultural tradition of honoring deceased loved ones each year on November 1 and 2 by displaying “calaveras de azúcar” (sugar skulls), “altares de muertos” (altars of the dead) and “ofrendas” (offerings), which has evolved from the Aztecs to modern-day Mexico and California. Visitors also are invited to celebrate a lost loved one in the exhibition’s Community Altar."

The United States and the world joined in protest against police brutality and murder. BLACK LIVES MATTER. A year later and the officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty and we are waiting for sentencing. George Floyd's 6 year old daughter's words, "Daddy Changed the World!" have rung true!

this event was a 3 day celebration in San Francisco's Palace of Fine Art to honor the iconic Lyle Tuttle and to raise funds to open the Lyle Tuttle Museum. The San Francisco museum will share with the world his work and collection of tattoo history; such as tattoo guns, flash art, and more. Tattoo artist, collectors, and fans from around the world were in attendance.  Lyle started tattooing when he was 15 years old and went on to make tattoo history. He tattooed rock stars and celebrities from around the world and is the only artist to tattoo on 7 continents while being tattooed on 6. He made the cover of Rolling Stone in 1970 after tattooing Janis Joplin, Paul Stanley, Cher, and many many more...  

Taken in natural light The Study of Cacti Blossoms started 6 years ago. The cactus blossom is the living definition of perseverance. The cactus absorbs the harsh conditions of it's given surroundings and gifts celebratory midnight blossoms as fleeting reminders of life's contrasts. The enduring cacti blossoms life balance and it's fragility. The blossom only survives the delicacy of the early morning hours yet the cacti will remain for hundreds of years.

The pueblo Izamal is the color of Maize. Mayan ruins dot the neighborhood. The Ya'ache or "Tree of Life" is curiously close to each of them. The Plaque above the door reads, "El Pequeno Eduardo~ Artesanias Hojalateria Ramo". One moment we are walking for our morning coffee, the next is a whirlwind, 91 years wise Eduardo, tin artist off the main street in Izamal, Mexico. He is a spectacular gentleman that is writing a book. I'm sending him photos to use if he chooses. This book will be a quite a gift to the world. When he leaves this earth he will be taking his skills with him. He followed in his father's footsteps, who died at the age of 87, but it ends with him. Eduardo has a kind, wise presence and thankfully he was eager to tell his story which we so appreciated. He lost vision in one eye when he was making a piece and the molten metal splashed. The last photograph is of Eduardo with this creation, a beautiful altar of Our Lady de Guadalupe that he created for himself to display when he passes. The gifts of traveling are the people you meet along the way.
